Flygility![]()
The sport of flygility has elements of both agility and flyball and is exclusive to New Zealand. It is a
fast, exciting sport for dogs that love agility and to fetch balls. The dog is sent over a set of obstacles to fetch a
ball
from a flyball machine by triggering the mechanism with its paws to
release the ball. The dog then returns the ball to the handler by
taking the obstacles again. In flygility tournaments two dogs race one another in every run and
the fastest goes to the next round. Courses are 30 metres from the startline to the box. There are different levels, starting with Elementary. In the lower
levels only jumps and tunnels are used, the highest level can also
have six weave poles.
If
you are interested in this exciting game, come along on one of the
flygility training evenings on the first three Wednesdays of each
month. On the first and third Wednesday it starts at
6.15 pm. with training for any member who is interested. Your dog
needs to have good off-lead control and has
to love balls!
On the second Wednesday of the month things are a bit different. The flygility and agility fraternaties in New Zealand support a national competition organised by the National Agility Link Association (NALA ). Each month, a section of the NALA magazine, sent to all its members, outlines the courses for that month and publishes the results of the previous month. Members from all over the country compete against eachother at their own club, without having to travel! NSDTC members are encouraged to become NALA members to be eligible to run flygility LINK on every second Wednesday, following the training that starts at 6.15pm.
